  • Design Consultancy Services

The following are the key elements in creating your dream garden or landscape that we will work through with you:

client consultation

This is essential and involves visiting you to discuss your requirements, giving you some initial ideas, and identifying what you hope to achieve. We can discuss whether you want to create a formal or informal space and the type of materials and plants you want to incorporate. At this meeting we will guide you through the different options and outline the specific services available.

Following on from the consultation, we will send you a summary of the initial requirements and a breakdown of the design fees and a design timetable. Once we have your approval to proceed we can move onto the next stage.

site survey & site analysis

Conducting a survey and site analysis involves taking measurements of the site, including the position of the property, levels, location of trees and drains. The site analysis also includes taking soil samples, site orientation and notes on environmental factors.

For large sites, or where it is difficult to measure the site, a surveyor may be required to complete a building and land survey.

concept design and master plan

All great gardens start with a great design. From all the information gathered, we will produce a concept design of the new garden that we will review together to make sure you are happy with the proposed design. A concept design enables you to have a clear understanding of the proposed layout of the garden, how it will look and the materials that will be used (i.e. hard landscaping, focal points, structures and feature planting). At this point in the design process any concerns, changes to initial requirements can be discussed and adjustments made to make sure that you get the garden that you want.

After the concept design has been agreed the masterplan is produced, which includes a specification of how to construct the garden. This is the blueprint to realise your new garden! Back to top

planting plans

Whilst discussions may have already taken place on the style of planting at earlier meetings, we like to give clients time to review different planting styles while the structure of the garden is agreed. Planting plans take into consideration the aspect and conditions of the site and your preferences.

A detailed planting plan for the whole garden or for selected areas is produced, along with separate plant lists.

We offer a planting service where we source the plants and plant up the scheme for you. We have access to a wide network of trade nurseries who offer a broad selection of plants in different sizes.

construction

Construction plans, if required, will be prepared (e.g. details about hard landscaping, such as steps, walls, terraces, pergolas, water features, etc). In addition to design and construction drawings, we can also prepare detailed written specifications and scopes of work. These will enable the landscape contractors to submit itemised quotations to build your garden.

We work with a number of quality landscapers and specialist contractors who will be happy to quote to build the garden. Appointing a good quality landscaper that will guarantee his/her work and provide a quality finish is an important part of the process; we can guide you through this.

aftercare

Once your new garden is completed you may require help with ongoing maintenance (e.g. cutting grass, seasonal pruning, etc) or to discuss further enhancements such as lighting, irrigation or sourcing an item of furniture for the garden. We are happy to discuss any aftercare requirements with you and source in the appropriate services to meet your needs and budget.
